Oceanside's original pier was built in 1888 with the city itself, but it was destroyed and rebuilt many times by storms before the current structure opened to the public in September 1987 at a cost of $5 million. The pier extends 1,954 feet into the Pacific, making it the second longest wooden pier on the West Coast of the United States.

The pier functions as a year-round gathering place for the community. Fishing is popular along its length, and surfing draws athletes to both the north and south sides. The Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre hosts concerts, festivals and cultural events throughout the year, and the nearby Junior Seau Beach Community Center provides gym facilities and programs. The pier is open to the public at no charge.

A pier is a place where a community comes together across generations: a first fishing trip, a marriage proposal, a tradition carried into children's own lives. Planning for the people who share those traditions is what life insurance does. A term policy covers the years when an unexpected loss would strain your family's finances, and then ends when that need has passed.
